Local Vincentians make the best of scaled-back Friends of the Poor walk

CROWN POINT | The 13th running of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk/Run marked the 175th anniversary of the charitable organization in the U.S. Though full in-person events were not hosted by the diocesan SVDP council, some families and parish-based SVDP conferences got out in the great outdoors on Saturday to raise funds for the less fortunate.

“I told people we have to be a little safer; you can get together with your family or friends or you can even stay home and do some kind of physical activity like the treadmill,” said Diane McKern, diocesan coordinator of the pledged walk for charity. “This year is different. We have to do a lot of things differently. But it is important to keep (the walk) going.

She added, “Here we are walking around Lemon Lake."
