Basic Functions:

To assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Reports directly to the principal and is responsible for carrying out all tasks assigned by the Principal.  The Assistant Principal serves the school in a professional manner and acts in accordance with Catholic doctrine and moral teachings.  These may include but are not limited to:

  • Advising the principal on all matters relating to the operation, direction, and control of the school.
  • Supervising and evaluating instructional and classified staff as assigned by the principal.  This includes conferences, corrective action, and necessary in-service training.
  • Conducting formative evaluations of teachers and walkthroughs to assess teacher instruction (as needed).
  • Performing management functions assigned by the principal.
  • Assuming the responsibilities of the principal in his/her absence when designated to do so by the principal, and in emergency situations without specific designation.
  • Fostering good public relations and effective communication with students, staff, parents, and others in the community.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of records and preparation of reports in the student management system.
  • Supervising and coordinating the counseling, health, attendance, and psychology services for students, including the maintenance and utilization of student records and the implementation of appropriate referral procedures.
  • Handling discipline problems reported by teachers and other staff members.
  • Establishing and maintaining systems to direct and control student movement, both within and outside of the school building, including vehicular traffic on school grounds.
  • Maintaining appropriate working relationships with law enforcement agencies and the Child Welfare Department.
  • Administering school-determined procedures governing enrollment, attendance and withdrawal, including the maintenance of appropriate records and the dissemination of information to students and parents.
  • Establishing and ensuring the proper functioning of faculty study committees, in-service programs, and curriculum development projects.
  • Developing the master schedule of classes and coordinating its implementation.
  • Coordinating IDOE school reporting on on Data Exchange and DOE online
  • Assisting in coordinating all state and local testing
  • Determining the nature of assembly and special school programs, scheduling programs, and ensuring proper direction and supervision of them
  • Scheduling building and facilities usage for school and non-school activities
  • Assisting with curriculum selection, recommendations for purchase, and the distribution of textbooks and other instructional materials and supplies
  • Grant writing and monitoring experience
  • Carrying out other duties assigned by the Principal.

Educational Leadership:

  • Assuming Leadership role on the Advisory Board and HSA
  • Assisting in the selection and orientation of instructional and classified staff assigned to the school building.  This includes necessary conferences, in-service training, and corrective action
  • Ensuring proper supervision of clerical and custodial personnel
  • Coordinating the co-curricular and ensuring proper supervision of these programs
  • Assisting in the new staff orientation and continual guidance and support of new staff members

Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree; With Masters in Administration & Supervision (or Working toward completion)
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience

Physical Requirements:

Candidates should be physically capable of successfully performing the essential functions of the position.  Note:  St. Stanislaus is not an accessible facility.
