Located just 40 minutes outside of Chicago, St. John the Evangelist Parish is a growing, innovative, faith-filled Catholic parish.  We are focused on evangelization, and our music ministry is a critical part of our mission.

We are seeking a dynamic Male Vocalist to balance our Praise Band, lead vibrant weekend liturgies and help parishioners engage fully in the Mass.  Working closely with our Pastoral Associates of Worship and of Music and our talented musicians, this Vocalist will be focused on enhancing our music ministry both musically and through a greater emphasis on spiritual development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively with our music ministry to plan, prepare and lead moving and stirring weekly Masses, Holy Days, special liturgies, worship experiences and other events
  • Enthusiastically and energetically leading the congregation in song, prayer and reflections
  • Developing new music, including current contemporary Christian music
  • Attending all music rehearsals
  • Committing to a team approach in all responsibilities with other music ministry staff and volunteers

Our ideal candidate will have a true love and joy for Jesus Christ that is genuine and apparent through word and action, in addition to having a dynamic and outgoing personality. It is essential that candidates have the ability to lead and motivate others, as well as the flexibility, creativity and commitment to propose and develop current and new initiatives that further the scope and reach of the worship team.

Technical skills include:

  • Advanced musical talent in vocals
  • Ability to skillfully play at least one instrument, preferably the guitar
  • Ease at reading, singing and performing music from lead sheets, such as PraiseCharts
  • Experience in playing in a band or performing solo
  • Practicing Catholic with strong personal faith preferred though Christians open to learning more about the Catholic faith for job purposes will also be considered
  • Ability to arrange music is a plus
  • Willingness to regularly work nights and weekends is required

This is a stipend position of 10-15 hours per week.
