The Diocese of Gary is seeking a Director of Intercultural Ministries to serve the distinct communities within Northwest Indiana. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advocating, supporting and empowering various groups and helping educate others to do the same.   • Minimum of bachelor’s degree, graduate degree in relevant discipline preferred such as Pastoral Ministry or Theology
  • Dedication and commitment to pursuing the mission of the Catholic faith
  • Knowledge of cultural identities, spiritualities, and histories of distinct communities within the diocese (e.g., communities of color, the other-abled, Hispanic etc.)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to needs of diverse communities
  • Fluency in Spanish

Job Duties

  • Consultation and Administrative Services on behalf of the Bishop and Various Pastoral Center Departments and Programs
    • Conduct and share research pertaining to ministries/programs serving distinct communities
    • Assist the Bishop in developing, communicating and implementing multicultural vision
    • Develop diocesan initiatives/programs
    • Support Diocese of Gary’s Social Teaching Commission
    • Perform administrative tasks such as writing reports, budgeting, etc.
  • Consultation Services on Behalf of Parishes
    • Assist pastors to recognize, appreciate and address various spiritual, liturgical, and social needs of distinct communities they minister to
    • Share best practices pertaining to intercultural ministries, diversity and inclusion training and link pastors to resources
    • Identify funding and other resources that can underwrite the pursuit of parishes’ intercultural ministries
    • Assist with immigration issues as needed
  • Consultation and Coordination Services on Behalf of Distinct Communities in the Diocese of Gary
    • Research, communicate and advocate best practices pertaining to intercultural ministry to service distinct communities
    • Coordinate with others to plan gatherings/events/liturgical celebrations important to distinct communities
    • Identify training and development opportunities to advance efforts of affinities cohorts
    • Support affinity cohorts by identifying human and funding resources for their work and advocating for the cohorts
